HP: we'll be top for tablets

HP is confident it's developed an iPad killer, with an executive claiming its tablet will take the top sales spot.
The PC maker last year snapped up Palm for $1.2 billion, and is using its webOS operating system on its TouchPad tablet, which is yet to be released.
"In the PC world, with fewer ways of differentiating HP’s products from our competitors, we became number one; in the tablet world we’re going to become better than number one," said Head of Europe Eric Cador, at a press conference in Cannes, according to a report in the Telegraph. "We call it number one plus."
That "number one plus" position of course involves knocking Apple's iPad from the top spot, which devices from Android and RIM have so far failed to do.
Last month, Gartner predicted the iPad's share would slide over the next few years as rival tablets finally arrive, but expects webOS to grab only 3% of the market by 2015.
However, Cador believes HP can win where rivals haven't because the company “plays in both the consumer and business and world".
He said the specs of a device aren't what's important. "We tend to talk about technologies," he was quoted as saying. "But the way the user is going to look at tablets means it’s about experience."
"The way the corporate is going to look at it is to say that its employees, who are also consumers, have got to like it and it’s got to be secure," he said. "We’re going to deliver that. Beyond that, it’s about marketing and branding.”
